It took 100-plus firefighters to combat fire which reportedly broke out on October 7 at 12 am at a glass factory in Leeds.

The fire is understood to have started in a manufacturing plant at the Towngate Link industrial estate which is located on Cross Green Way and owned by Allied Glass Containers.

The company makes bottles for Scotch whisky brand, The Famous Grouse.

Flames rose from the factory’s roof as thick clouds of smoke filled the air. A twitter user @stucker73 captured this in a dramatic video. The fire was described by Chris Kirby, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue area manager as ‘very well developed’.

The scene was attended by 4 aerial platforms and 20-plus fire engines from the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, and 7 fire engines remained at the scene at 10 am on Friday (October 7) morning to ensure that all the remaining pockets of fire were totally extinguished.
